Stern drive paint removal

light grit sandpaper and a lot of time and paitience..dremmel with the right sanding attachments/tools for the small hard to reach areas. I used v/p primer on spots were the orignal vp paint was down to the bare Al and swear by the interlux 33 drive paint in spray or can..its not cheap but if you prep properly it protects and lasts.

+1 on the blasting. Sanding small spots are ok but unless you know what you're doing and are very careful, you can grind impurities into the soft metal and create a bigger problem which will be apparent after the first season of the new paint job. IMO, if the entire drive is to be done, blast it. Don't use paint that contains any metal, and it's a good time to replace anodes.

+ 1 on blasting with soda as the media...... or perhaps plastic pellets.
Try to leave as much of the OEM paint as you can!

Also, give Castrol's "Super Clean" a try on a small area.
I've seen this product remove this type of paint before. It may require several applications.
