Steering link nyloc nut

Just did a periodic clean and lube on my teleflex cable and tilt tube. I believe the manual calls for a *low profile* nyloc nut, why is this so?

Am I able to use the regular thickness nut that I have? (10 low profiles are coming in the mail)

As long as the "nylock" can grab the threads below the starting taper, and not just at the very top, I say it will be fine. Make sure that as you tighten the nut, you get at least 2 complete turns past the "grab point".
