steering cables

I recently replaced steering cables on my triton 186, mercury xr6 150hp. The motor "flops" to one side or the other while trailering and with a transom savor. In fact, the last haul, the motor moved to one side and broke off the one side of the transom savor. Also, while motoring at low speeds on the water, if I let go of the wheel the torque from the motor will cause the wheel to immediately wheel as far as it can go. Not a big deal at slow speeds, but when on plane, it's dangerous. Curious if anyone has any thoughts on this and how to tighten this up so it's not as dangerous.

Thanks.

I use a rubber strap tied to the steering wheel to trailer mine. There's an adjustable fin under the cavitation plate on your motor. Moving it right or left may help while the boat is moving. You're right, that's dangerous....BF
