Stator question

Hello, question,,If the stator on a 1978 evinrude is bad will it stop fire to all three cylinders or can it go bad and stop only one or two cylinders from firing? thanks airboat 233,,,,,( My guess is it stops all cylinders from firing, but just a guess)
