hi, hope someone can help.
3.0 gs volvo penta GM engine, starter went, got a rebuilt one from boat yard, went bad in 10 starts, they replaced it, went again and then, again this year. it makes a high pitched whine, does not engage the flywheel. flywheel is fine. someone told me i may need a 9 tooth, the ones i have been getting are 11 tooth. of course, original starter long gone so i do not know how many teeth original had. two boatyard parts guys are no help.
this is in a 1995 glastron, 130 hp sterndrive

If starter makes high pitch whine,sounds like mabe brushes are bad in starter!! and also you need to put on a starter which in probably a 9 tooth.findout from manufacturer how many teeth you need.
