Something went wrong

1989 Maxum 2300 with alpha one 5.0 sterndrive.

Just had new lower shift cable installed, along with new ujoints, bellows, and gimbal bearing. Boat has run well for a few hours following repairs.

However last night about 500 yards after leaving the dock, something went out. At about 75% throttle, the boat suddenly surged forward and the engine raced, with limited forward momentum. The engine runs fine in neutral, will rev all the way up and down, and will go into gear (forward and reverse) however it will not push the boat past idle speed. I had to limp back to the dock in forward at idle speed. Increasing the throttle past idle does not push the boat faster --- it is as though I am in neutral.

Spun propeller hub comes to mind -- anyone have any ideas what this might be?

Thanks

Ayuh,... That'd be My guess....

The only other thing possible is a blown Coupler...

So it didn't overheat ?

1- install your spare prop. If the boat operates correctly then you good to go.

2- If your temp shot up then it's the coupler, the motor got to come out. Look behind the motor and under it, see alot of little rubber pieces, or a burnt rubber smell ?
