Solex Carb Problems

I have a 79 glasply runabout with an AQ120B/ 170 VP setup. Getting the boat running after sitting several years. I was in the process of rebuilding the carb and found that at some point someone attempted a rebuild but somehow the float setting got buggered up. long story short I ended up breaking off one of the floats trying to correct the issue. Anyone out there have a solex 44 PHN-3 sidedraft float or parts carb? The only thing on ebay right now is a dual carb setup complete with manifold going for more than I want to spend.

Frankly I would go look for a solex down draft and manifold set. I've always thought the sidedrafts are worthless. Once the problems set in they never stop. There is a guy that might have what you need: http://www.carburetor-parts.com/ I've bought rebuild kits from him, he knows his stuff.

I will check into that option. I have thought about it before but there may be a clearance issue between the engine cover and carb if I change to that setup. I will have to do some measuring. In the meantime I have modified the needle and seat and JB- welded the float back on to get the thing up and running for now.
