I have a 2004 Mercruiser 8.1 Horizon mated to a V drive. Recently I have a intermittent constant beep alarm from my starboard Smartcraft and it says "check engine". From my research, this constant beep is a low gear lube alarm but obviously I do not have gear lube since I do not have an outdrive. I checked my transmission fluid level and it was very low so I added fluid until full but I still have the alarm.
Would they hook the gear lube level alarm to a transmission? What else could cause this alarm?
Oil pressure, water pressure, water temp are all okay and the engine runs great and shifts smoothly.
This alarm may or may not clear itself after running for a bit but comes back after I start the engine next time.
