" I get a clicking, stuttering

" I get a clicking, stuttering noise from my morse shifting cable back at the motor while shifting into and out of gear. The slower i shift into gear the more pronounced the sound. Any ideas as to how i can fix this problem. I thought the connection back on the motor was suppossed to be kinda loose, is that right?

Thanks,
Steve "

"Steve.... That clicking is no

"Steve.... That clicking is noise resulting from the lobes on the shifter dog and the gear hitting each other before they are finally forced to grab.

The proper method for shifting is to snap the shift control/engine into gear as fast as possible. Some boaters think that shifting slow is resulting in taking it easy on the shifting mechanism. Nothing could be further from the truth.

" Thanks for the quick reply joe.

The engine never used to make this noise, ive had this motor for 10 years, so im guessing there is something broken or loose. Is it possible the lobes to be broken? "

"Steve.... It's not likely

"Steve.... It's not likely that the lobes are broken, having the right angles rounded off bad would be more like it.
