setup for a johnson 175 faststrike on an 18 foot FS

how can I check the motor setup on a 1997 sprint 287fs. After getting on plane it starts to cavitate after just a little up trim. I can only get about 4200 rpms and the ride becomes a little unstable.

Any ideas please??
