Rick I think I figured out my problem

with my out drive not going back on. Please tell me if this is correct. My thinking is the mechanic does not have the gimbal bearing all the way in (the left side is slightly out - not flush) . Wont this cause the out drive to not line up on the right side because the shaft can not go straight in but has to move to the right because that is the way the bearing is installed?

Yippee my boat is back together again. I made the mechanic ( he wasn't going to) redo the alignment tool procedure with me watching. Yep slightly off to the right. Once corrected we put the drive shaft thru the gimbal bearing and guess what , the housing aligned with the bolt stubs and all is well in boat land tonight. If was cold too, about 45 degrees when we did this today. Thank god this is over.
