Ok so my 50-year old "pre alpha" outdrive has finally given up the ghost. (1970 MarkTwain, 6cyl 165hp)
I'm looking at a "165 outdrive" off a 1981 boat (same motor, 6cyl 165), and pictures of the outdrive look the same, externally. (Bearing cap loop, fin shape, bolt pattern etc.)
Q: will the 1981 unit be a simple swap onto my 1970 bell housing, without any mods, diff gasket shapes, yoke change etc needed?
Reason for asking is, I've read that the 1970-71 outdrives are the same, but things changed after 1972..
