getting ready to remove my AQ131D from my boat. can I remove the engine block without removing the outdrive? I heard that it's easy to bend the primary shaft."

"It's doable if you have enough space, you just have to unbolt the bellhousing and slide the engine forward. But installing it back is another matter.

Personally, I prefer to pull the outdrive, unbolt the bellhousing flange from the transom shield, and pull engine ant bellhousing together. Whenever you are going to overhaul an engine, you may as well take the time to change the bearing and lip seal in the bellhousing."
