Re placing plug wires and coils on my 9.5 evinrude

Finally got the nerve up to pull the mag plate. Noticed a lot of oil under it around the crank shaft,on and around the brass plate. Do I need a seal replaced in that area? Found cracks on plug wires and kill switch wire's,so I'm glad I took you're advice and pulled the mag plate. Also found one of the c_clips missing on the throttle linkage. So it was good I tackled this job. Just concerned about that oil under plate. Any thought's?

Personally, I wouldn’t classify that as “a lot of oil”. There is always some grease there, it lines the timing plate. When the top seal goes, it’s a real mess…everywhere.
Ive currently got 4 motors apart, they all look close to that.

That's reassuring. Thanks for your reply.

Actually, it looks pretty good. You can squirt a bit of oil on the seal and rotate the shaft a few times. See bubbles? If so, the seal is leaking. People tend to over lube the mounting rings. Just a light smear is all that is needed. Excess gets lignified by vibration and fouls the breaker points.
