I have a 96 mercruiser 5.7 in a 24ft cuddy cabin cruiser. I am getting about 45-46 rpm's at wot and about 36-37 mph. I believe I have a 19 pitch prop on there now. I want to go to a ss prop. what pitch should I use and should I expect any more mph? thanks

Re: prop question

I would use the same pitch and diameter as what you have now. If you decide you want more holeshot then go down in pitch. If you want more top end, go up in pitch. I've got a 3 blade ss prop right now. I just ordered a 4 blade ss. 14X18. I wanted more holeshot for pulling skiers and wakeboarders. I'll try it out this weekend and let you know how it works.

Re: prop question

really dont want SS because of the internal damage they can cause, the alum is like an insurance policy. You may be able to go up in pitch trading off the hole shot or "getting to plane" speed but if you dont reach the correct power band in rpm and lug the motor ,you will be replacing the valves.
