Problems accelerating

Out this afternoon. Suddenly lost acceleration. Limped home at idol speed but experienced a old whine when we tried to accelerate. Had boat in last month when we the motor shut down when we accelerated. Shop couldn't find anything wrong(500.00 later). Any suggestions before we waste another wad of money?

Okay, It's an outboard? inboard? I/O? V-drive? Jet Drive? and it has a diesel?, or gas engine? If so, What engine? and how many, 1 engine, 2 engines? How big is the boat? 12'? 60'?
You see where I'm going here, right? More Info needed!

Be willing to pay for "diagnostics" up front.
Once the problem has been properly diagnosed, ask for a "quote" that states that the work scope will correct the problem as per the "diagnostics".
Proceed only after a having written work scope "Quote" in your hand!
