pre alpha lowerleg replacement gears

Hi,
I hope I haven't sent this twice

I am rebuilding a pre alpha lower mercruiser gearbox. My driveshaft has preload pin. My pinion gear has 20 teeth and had a broken tooth. I am having trouble getting a replacement gear.
Can I replace the existing set with a newer set of the three gears with different tooth count?
