" I have recently purchased a 43' Pan Oceanic Sloop sailboat equipped with a Perkins 4-108(M) engine. The transmission is a Hurth with a reduction ratio of 1.9:1.
My question regards the max RPM which I can achieve. With the engine unloaded (transmission in neutral) maximum RPM is 4000 (limit of my tach). With the transmission in Forward, maximum RPM is 2000. All RPM readings confirmed with mechanical handheld tach in addition to engine driven tachometer. I think the engine is significantly over propped (too much pitch). Currently have a Max-Prop (17" diameter) 3 blade adjustable pitch. The vessel also came with a 16" diameter x 14" pitch fixed pitch 3 bladed prop.
Can you confirm my evaluation and present me with the recommended maximum full load continuous operation RPM so that I can appropriately reset the pitch of the propeller.
Thank you. "
