785 a horse Mercury outboard. I'm in need of a new trigger. I found one with the part number 393 3736 a77. Is this compatible with mine my part number is 393 3736 just wondering what the a77 is all about

its an 85hp . serial#703 3428. can anyone tell me if switch box part number 332 2986 is compatible with the trigger

yes its canadian.1975 sounds about right I wasnt sure of the year

the diagram on that link does not look like mine 4 wires on one side of my switch box and 3 wires on the. Have a green brown red and white the coil side ,red white and black on the trigger side

what would be the advantage to upgrading the ignition?

also the trigger I found claims that it is for a mercury outboard 1978-1980

the part is new, its the part I mentioned in my first post.

the compression on the motor seems fine. I havent done a compression test. the previous owner claims he did one and im naive enough to believe him

also I was wndering if there is any way to eliminate the trigger and convert to electronic ignition.
the diagram you posted looks very much like my motor.

what happens if I use the wrong battery. I assume it can blow up the trigger and switch box?

Would the cdi switchbox and trigger, that you posted , be able to handle a good quality deep cycle battery?
