Outdrive service

Had my ten year old Mercruiser I/O outdrive serviced. During first use gear oil alarm came on. Took back to dealer. They said the gear lube hose was dry rotted. I would think the hose should have been at least inspected, but probably should have been replaced. Please advise what this outdrive service should include. Thanks, Fred
