Outdrive replacement

I have a 78 I drive and want to know if a Alpha 1 outdrive will work in the old gimbal housing on the boat. I found one online for 900 bucks complete with the gimbal and inside engine mount but didn't know if I would have to change everything or just the outdrive itself. I also saw a alpha 1 gen 2 available, would that work with the old gimbal? This boat has a 350 Mercruise in it. Thanks for any insight here.

Ayuh,.... An Alpha 1 will work, an Alpha 1, Gen.II will Not...

Thanks for the response, is there a advantage to going with the alpha one over the old I drive besides the age difference.
