I have a sunbird corsica cuddy with a 2.3 omc sterndrive inboard petrol engine.could you help me,when you engauge reverse(not working)and forward(working)is this purely acheived by the two cables moving the dog clutch in the lower sterndrive unit,or are there any electrical switches involed.I am new to this and would be gratefull for any advice.

one cable, but the cable only goes as far as the gimbal housing. From there, a fork then moves a shift rod that protrudes into the lower unit. That rod moves the dog.
No electrical involved to get the actual shifting to happen- all mechanical.

There are some switches that help make the shifting smoother but if you cannot engage reverse, you have a mechanical problem. cable or linkage or dog etc.
