When I move the throttle control forward the cable and linkage move fine,the same cannot be said about reverse which will not move at all now.I disconected the cable from the linkage and that moves ok but the cable is solid and will not move,would this be more likely to be the cable or the dog clutch.I have received some replies thank you,but the situation has now changed with no movement of the reverse cable.The boat has been neglected in nearly every way so it is taking some time to sort everything out.Many thanks.

pull the drive off and try to shift it from the rod into the lower.
That little pocket where the shift "flag" sits can get packed with mud even - impedes movement.

need to pull the drive and do some exploring.
