"Bought a boat that sat since 03 and has a volvo penta gas aq271c v8. Was winterized that year but has been drydocked and has not been touched since. I plan on discarding gas but due to prices today a little voice is trying to convince me that I can use it. The other voice is telling me you'll cause more damage to the engine them it would be worth. Just Looking for some opinions ie test gas, octane boost, dump it.... forget about it."

"If the engine was winterized properly, the carb should be in good condition. Mind you, Holleys tend to get the floats stuck if they sit dry for a long time, but that should not be a big problem.

If the boat has been sitting for 5 years with gas ithe tank and the fuel lines, you have big chances of that gas being bad. I would personally discard it, spending an extra 100 bucks is just peanuts when you own a Volvo penta anyway.
