The fuel pumps on my

Hello:

The fuel pumps on my Chrysler 440 engines are the old style without the tygon tube to the carburetor. They are currently working fine. Is this a safety issue? Should they be replaced with the new style. Any opinions would be helpfull.

Yes. THe third line vents gas from a ruptured diaphram to the carb (instead of the bilge).

Should they be replaced with the new style.

Not necessary. If you are clever and careful, you can drill a hole in the pump body and add the third line connection. (There's often a spot in the casting for the drilling.) I've done this myself and it's no big deal. Epoxy the fitting into the body.
