Oil type for 2002 200 hp

Is it really necessary to use yamaha 4 stroke oil when servicing or can any goog quality 4 cylcle oil be used. Is there any difference in it and marine oil.

LOL, now that is not an easy question to answer, in fact has been the topic of many lengthy discussions.

On a 4-stroke motor, once you are out of warranty you can use about any kind of oil you want as long as it meets the requirements of the mfg, for instance if they say 10-30 synthetic you should use a good quality 10-30 synthetic.

Why would you use TCW3 in a four stroke???

I was basing it on a motor under warranty

FC-W for 4 stokers
TC-W3 for 2 smokes
