Oil recommendation

" First, thanks for all the he

" First, thanks for all the helpful information leading up to my purchase of 1988 Mako with 2002 115hp Evinrude. I have contacted Evinrude to obtain owners manuals and tranfer the warrantee.

Now the question: the previous owner recommended and said that only Evinrude Ficht Ram synethic oil could be used.
Is this true?
Does it have to be synethic?
Do the other motor makers offer a synethic equal that could be used?
Any recommendations or thoughts?
Thanks again "

I would stick with the manufa

I would stick with the manufacturer recommended oil. That oil is made for the Ficht engine and should be used in it.

" I agree, stick with the FICH

" I agree, stick with the FICHT RAM oil. My mechanic explained that some of the early Ficht engines (98-99 models) had problems scoring the cylinder walls because other TCW3 oils would not provide proper lubrication. Also, other oils were more prone to carbon build-up in these engines. The FICHT RAM oil is designed to tackle both of those problems. Also, it is a safe bet to use the manufactures oil so if you do have a problem they can't blame it on the oil. "
