o rings in water pump kit for 1980 evinrude model e25tecsa

Where do the O rings go in the water pump kit. There are 2 of them. Do you put any gasket
sealer on the gaskets? Any other type of sealer go anywhere else or do you just put it together dry?

Looks like the O-Rings may be for a 35HP. It's common to have parts included in kit that fit other models. One kit for all.

I always put OMC Gasket Sealer on both sides of the gaskets.

Thanks Bill. Yes, I had seen that gear case schematic but it only shows one O ring and my kit has two. It just seems to me that there should be some sort of seal where the shaft goes into the gear case. Mine just slides right out. What's to stop water from going into the gear case around the shaft.

As per the exploded diagram there are two O-Rings. One on top and one on bottom of item #60 Spacer Tube. Item #39 is two drive shaft seals. They seal around the drive shaft. Both of my motors have back to back seals like that.

On some motors if you slide out the drive shaft there is a possibility of some of the needle bearings falling out into the gear case. I don't know if that applies to yours or not. Item #50 is a needle bearing.
