1973 Johnson 115 HP. How can I tell if I have a 6 amp or a 12 amp stator.

Evidently you determined the stator is bad just get the 12 amp stator they use the same flywheel. be sure and replace the reg/rect at the same time and confirm the battery is in good condition.

Thank You for the reply. I will get the boat out of the water this week. I will then do the test to see where the problem is. I am not sure it is the stator as of now, I was just looking up the parts when it ask if it was a 6 or 12 amp system. Battery is new this season. Rectifier was replaced last season because the battery was not charging. The engine was running good. I was warming it up for about 10 minutes and it just shut off. Would not fire on starting fluid, then I checked and found no spark. Thank you for your help.
