Hmmm - been sitting a while - like months or maybe years.

All kinds of crud in the carbs.

Water pump is probably in "iffy" shape at best.

Might be water/condensation in the lower unit.

Any motor that has been sitting for more than a few weeks, and especially if it's been many weeks needs some significant prep before you fire it up to put it in use.

You didn't state the horsepower/year or model of the motor but the compression sounds fine.

Unless you know for a fact that the water pump was serviced in the past couple of years - or if you have no history at all - get it seen to. A complete kit would be in order if you don't know one way or the other.

The carbs need to be pulled and cleaned. At minimum the seals and gaskets should be replaced. The carbs soaked out. Float level checked/adjusted and needle valve and jets inspected and replaced if required.

The lower unit needs to be drained and the gear oil inspected for water, metal etc. Flush the lower unit if the oil was really nasty and have it pressure tested if water was present.

Now you don't have to do all that. You can try a can of seafoam in the gas tank and cross your fingers that you don't fry the motor.

You can pick up a Seloc's manual and go at the service yourself - not difficult if you are handy and have some basic mechanics tools.

If you have to take this to a shop to have all that done it could quickly turn into a 1000 dollar visit.

Since it's been sitting the fuel system is always the first place you start if you have an issue - that's most likely gummed/cootied up from sitting around...
