1974 Mercury 650 65hp 3 cylind

1974 Mercury 650 65hp 3 cylinder. in neutral will power up fine. Idles fine. Under load there is no power. At full throttle it will jump periodically as if it wants to go and then the power spurts will become more frequent and eventually it will come to life and run wide open until you throttle back down and then it does the same thing over again.
It has ran fine all summer and it started doing this yesterday. Any ideas??

Tune-up. Plugs points(if it has them). Check / clean carburetor. Inspect plug wires,cap,rotor. Have the compression checked."

"Greg, It sounds like the carbs have an incorrect idle mixture setting. If you haven't messed with them, it is likely the carbs got dirty, and need a cleaning and mixture adjustment."
