No idea where to start/what to do

Hey y'all, I need some help. I got a 75 hp '63 Johnson motor on '60 Larson V Haul, it was given to me by a family member who was going to just toss it out. It hasn't been weatherized, and its been satin' out for quite a few Ohio years, maybe 5 or so if I remember right. Oh well anywhoo, I was given it this past summer. I tinkered with it for a bit and it was able to get the engine to crank over but not start. Later I rebuilt the carburetor and fuel pump - I'd like to think I did it right - and I was able to fire it up and get it to run....for about 3 seconds. And now I've got nothing. No crank, nothin'. So now I'm starting over from the beginning and I'd like some help..I really wish I would have found this for forum earlier but whatcha gonna do?

So my question is where I start?

And on a side note, Ive got a Jeep Cherokee. I got it at an actuation and it didnt run. Now I've got it up on a 4.5" suspension lift with 31s, snorkel, bed linered sides andI'm lookin to do a rear bumber and to able to toe with boat out to the lake this summer.

1. okay I'll fix the pictures tomorrow after school..sorry theyre not working they were earlier. :/ I'll check the compression one day as I do not have a tool, I'll have to rent one. I will check the gaping I have one of those tools on my key chain.

2. Where do I find the model number? I'll grab that tomorrow too.

3. I have little to no idea what youre talking about the kill switch and stuff. Sorry, when it comes to boats, I have almost no clue about anything. Jeeps and mountain bikes yep, boats none. :(

The model number should be on the clamp bracket by the tilt tube center. You will need a spark gap tester they are cheap at any auto part store you wont get 1/4 inch with a spark plug. If you are gonna do your own work get a service manual for your motor that way you have a schematic to trace wiring do not work on the wires with the battery connected it get expensive real fast. Make sure everything is correct before you connect the battery. I downloaded a clymer manual off ebay for cheap but I recommend checking the compression before spending any money on parts make sure it has good compression. anywhere around 80 lbs within 10% between the high and low numbers will do. Give us the numbers and if it has spark and go from there.

Ive gotta manual. Like a legit one, like the ones they have for cars and stuff. And I'll go look for the numbers.

Okay, so my Model number is V4S-2 And my serial number is 2033863

And I just found out that my second who is a dead beat, was working on this wile he was on heroine..so Looking at how jacked up the wiring is for the lights, I can begin to imagine how jacked up the wiring for engine is..

I'm currently uploading all 300 pictures of my jeep/boat to photobucket so I'll post pictures later again..

And again, I have little knowledge of boats of please forgive me I am a noob. But I'd like to think I learn pretty quick.

- Joe, I feel like thats your signature but I don't really know for sure...so I do not know what question you have asked that I have not tried to answer to the best of my abilities, so if you would please tell me which questions you're talking about and I would gladly try and answer them.
