Good news everyone (in my best professor Farnsworth voice). I found the broken part. Had nothing to do with the lower unit or the shift shaft, although after running aground I had seals leaking so no wasted effort on my part. After a close examination of the linkage I found a connector broken. Really hard to see it the way it had dropped down. As luck would have it I actually had one from where I was rear ended about 10 years ago and had to rebuild the mid section. Just goes to show that we shouldn’t jump to conclusions. Thoroughly troubleshoot the issue. I should have found this day one. The funniest part is that I actually had the replacement with me when it broke. Now to install the new seals and get back to fishing!!
