The problem is that the engine keeps trying to kick it out of gear anyone ever heard of this. I have adjusted the linkage as so it stays in gear but the engine still tries to kick it out of gear

the clutch dogs in your lower unit are likely worn (rounded off). A fairly common occurrence with these 25's.

Has this engine functioned okay in the past or has it been jumping out of gear since day one?

Is this engine new to you or have you owned it for some time?

Has any kind of work been done to this engine, then thie problem suddenly popped up?

We need a little engine history here.

i have just bought the boat and motor and I new It had a few problems But the engine runs like a top but the lower end had a few problems so i took it apart and cleaned it out and everything is working now but at the space in between the power head and the carb just under the flywheel is a lever and when it is in gear the lever pushes out and tries to kick the shift lever out of gear
i can take a video of this if it will help
