Just purchased a used dinghy with 1998 Evinrude 4.0 2-cycle outboard motor for tooling around the sound near our place in CT. I have some experience with 2-cycle engines but not boat engines. Just looking for some general operation instructions and maintenance instructions. The engine is currently in a dry state, no gas in it. My understanding is that these engines are water cooled and should never be run out of water. The preferred oil/gas mixture? Keys to easy startup? Once used and taken out of water, is there a drainage procedure. Can you leave gas in it for a period or do you need to run it dry every time out? Winterize procedure for off-season storage? Would appreciate any help.
