Hey everyone,
I recently bought a boat with a bow mount foot controlled motorguide trolling motor on it. Unfortunately it is well used and all external stickers and identifying tags have been worn down and removed. I am able to see an FW FB marking etched into the top of the head and was able to obtain the serial number, 9B123518, from the inside of the head.
When I reached out to Motorguide customer support with the SN they told me that it was an FW71FB 24volt motor. However, when I hooked up the motor to a 24v battery system I received a fireworks show and the momentary and rotary switch are now toast. I’m unsure if the switches were just on their way out or if the motor may be 12v and the switches were overloaded. I’ve ordered new switches to replace them but want to confirm before I fry a new set.
Any chance anybody knows how to decode the SN to confirm? Thanks in advance.
