I have a 1988 Starcraft SFM 16 that I would like to repower. It has a 1988 48hp Evinrude on it now. The boat’s original spec says it weighs 650 pounds dry. It has a maximum rating of 90HP. I am primarily interested in smooth slow trolling – not top speed. The BF50 would seem an ideal replacement. However, the BF60 (not the high thrust model) looks interesting. It weighs only 25 pounds more than the BF 50 and is available with Variable Speed Trolling where the speed can be adjusted in 50 RPM increments with a toggle switch.
Can BF50 trolling speeds be adequately adjusted with the standard control box throttle? How sensitive is it? Greater than 50 RPM increments?
Has anyone used the Variable Speed Trolling accessory with the BF60? How well does it work? Do you think it would adjust/control trolling speeds better than the BF50?
Is the BF60 too big for my boat if I am primarily interested in trolling?
Thanks for your thoughts.
