Need Info. on 1998 merc. 454 fuel injected.

Hi, evreybody i am in the proccess of repowering a boat. I found for sale two 1998 mercruiser 454 inboards with velvet drives 1:91 trannys. what i plan to do perform a compression test to see what i am dealing with. the current owner says the engines have less than 500 hrs. on them and they were winterised two years ago and have been sitting since then. If anybody has any input on this please let me know. like what are some other things to look at before purchasing. other info. on these engines would be appreciated. Thanks !

They were replaced for a reason; what was it? Can you run them? I would be leary of them w/o running them.
 
Guy hit it on the head, so say the person says it came out of a boat with damage, then they went into the water they might just be heavy anchors.
