Motor ID dilemma and questions.

I have a friend who has a problem. He purchased*his 200 hp Mariner and discovered it is overheating at idle only and we've gone through all possible scenarios, water pump, poppet, thermostats, etc. We've gotten down to the base gasket and adapter plate now. So, here's the problem. We've discovered this motor has obviously been pieced together. The powerhead is an 82 model and I believe the mid is an early 90's model. Powerhead has the following # on the freeze plug. 6110191. And the mid's number is 0D107638. I'm assuming the 82 is a 2.4 liter and the mid originally had a 2.5 liter. We are thinking this may be causing the low water pressure at idle. When we removed the powerhead and adapter plate we found the early 90's base gasket between the plate and the mid is a gasket that belongs on the 82 mid.

The*question is will the 82*powerhead successfully mate with the early 90's adapter plate with the correct gasket in place?

Thanks,
Eric
