This may seem crazy, the engine idles higher than I want for fishing and the throttle is completely rotated clockwise to the stop. But when I take the cover off, the motor idles down! I have looked at the linkage and it appears ok. Should I just adjust the idle screw?
 
Confirm choke knob is all the way in. See if the idle goes back up if you put the cowl back on.. When did this start? What is the actual RPM?
 
Made sure the choke was all the way opened. No way to check RPMs, going by sound. I noticed it only does this after a run with the throttle full. Then engine willnot return to the lower idle
