Mercury 60 6HP lower unit

Any good advice on getting the lower unit lined up with the powerhead? I seem to have difficulty lining up the splines on the main shaft to the powerhead, and don't want to use any force. Thanks

Pull the spark plugs so it is easy to turn the flywheel clockwise. Do you have a good plastic water tube guide on the water pump? It is still a pain either way you do it you need to make sure the shift splines are correct also. Once you do get it up put the nut on above the prop a few threads and see if it shifts properly while turning the flywheel by hand. Even the experienced mechanic will have a few choice words before it is all said and done.

Turn the motor upside down--makes it lots easier to get everything lined up.
