Mercury 155 engine went tight.

I have a Mercury 115hp 6 cylinder that went tight on me. I believe its a ring that may have broke off. I cab back the engine about 4 to 6 inches but it feels like something is stopping it. Where can I find a repair manual that is very indepth and covers everything and is reasonable in price? I don't want to buy something and it doesn't cover what I need.

Pull the bypass covers and look at the pistons and rings.----------------Sounds time consuming and expensive.------------Remove lower unit to determine whether the problem in in the engine or lower unit.

was it stored for a while? or did it happen after a day boating?
