I just finished re powering a boat with a 1977 mercury 1150 and dealing with a bad switch box and trigger, the motor ran great and after replacing the water pump i headed for the lake this weekend just to get to the ramp and find more problems. started great but had no water from the tell tale for about 30 seconds, once water came from the tell tale it was extremely hot. then about 2 minutes later the water stopped and turned into mostly steam, i shut it down and took it home to run it on muffs and see if i could figure it out. i ran it for about a minute on the muffs and pulled all the plugs and cylinder 1 had what looked like steam coming out. ant ideas what the cause could be? i haven't checked the water pump, and its possible the "steam" coming from cylinder 1 was just fuel vapor, although unlikely.
