Mercury 110 - cowling release broke

Hello everyone:

I was given a working Mercury Model 110 - 9.8 hp motor, whose cowling release lever (starboard side below cowling) is not working. The lever moves about 1/4” and does not release the cowling. I have tried PB Blaster, Krull oil and brute force but nothing seems to make the lever function. Is there another way to get the cover?

Try pushing down on the rear of the cowling while pushing in on the lever, its just a sliding clasp that releases the pin on the rear of the cowling. I'm assuming you're talking about a later model fiberglass cowl.

Are you pushing in on that latch mechanism or pulling it out ????
