It's specialty gear made for a specific purpose. If you wake surf it's great. If not, then you don't need it. No benefit as to performance, but higher gee-whiz factor over a B3. In my neck of the woods, I can see it getting all gnarly with a crab pot that drifted into shallow water.

Yeah allows stern drive boats into the wake surf market. Its insane how much surf boats cost so possibly this is a lower buy in price…Definitely not for shallow water

Around 2005 Volvo Penta put their IPS into production. So forward facing props are nothing new. The Merc B4 is a purpose built drive system. If you are not going to use it for its designed purpose, it may not be for you.
