I can't find my water intake (inlet)?
Here's a pic:
It's very different from every other XR4/Magnum II I can find on the internet which shows water muffs where I would normally expect the water inlets to be as shown in this photo I got from a YouTube video:
As you can see, I don't have water inlets where the muffs typically go. Are those slits at the front the water inlet? How would I fit muffs on those?
I put the lower unit into a water trough with water deep enough to cover those slits in front (that I think might be the water inlets) and idled the engine for maybe a minute or 2 but no water circulated (no water came out of the outlet tube) so either those slits aren't the water inlet or the pump isn't working, or maybe the thermostat is closed?
How long should I idle an engine waiting for the thermostats to open? I'm worried about overheating it. To test the water pump/impeller, could I temporarily remove the thermostats and idle the engine in water? Water should immediately circulate if the pump/impeller is working, right?
