Marine gaskets

I am sure this has been covered before and that there are a number of opinions on this topic, but let’s go for it. What are the differences between marine gaskets vs. the standard automotive version? Application is; 1978 Chevy SM 5.7, Crusader 270.

The marine kits usually have both "std" and "reverse" rotation rear main seal pairs for the older two piece designs.

Very. Raw water is nasty compared to anti-freeze solution.

if the engine has a well maintained closed cooling system and is used on a lake, I'd say the 'marine' head gasket is 'optional'. If it is a raw water cooled install, FJ's post above is spot-on.
