Lower unit internal snap rings

Having an issue removing the inboard snap ring. Outboard ring came out with ext. reach needle nose pliers (luck). Bought Gearwrench ext. reach internals and about a fraction of an inch from being able to remove the pins bent. Manual lists Johnson part # 331045, can not locate these. If anyone knows of any after market tool or where to source the original it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Must be the large snap rings that hold the carrier in place? I was able to grind the tips of some long handle needle nose but you need to be real careful pulling them out one little bump and you need to start again. Those snap ring pliers are probably spendy if you can find a set.

Well, I suppose you can get them out with makeshift tools, but the only sensible way is with the proper tool. That is a #7 Truarc pliers or equal. Preferably one with the ratchet device. You can get them from places that sell tools to mechanics.

Sorry for not getting back sooner, 1990 J140TLESE. Can not get deep enough, first ring came out easy, second ring a problem. Have extended reach needle nose plus snap ring pliers, seems like it gets to 90% compressed and snaps off. Concerned about depth of thrust washer, seems to be getting scratched. Thanks to all for replies!!!
