Lower unit 1974 Johnson and 1983 Johnson

Can someone tell me if a 1974 and a 1983 Johnson 15 hp will interchange?

Same lower unit.--Except for maybe the o-ring on top of driveshaft on some newer units.-Not sure what year that changed at this time.
