I had the misfortune of breaking the skeg off my 1993 Johnson 200hp venom last fall just before storage.

A friend has a 1989 Evinrude 200hp parts engine and said I could have the lower leg from it if I knew it would fit my Johnson.

Will it?

"To tell part of a long story, the skeg got broke in a battle with a parking lot curb. It took out the prop as well. When I indicated the shaft, it appears that it is bent too. I was hoping that the lower unit from the rude could bolt on and save a lot of expense, since it's a freebee."

"Mesure the driveshaft hight and the splines on top of both. Originally they have different shaft system: 89 = 1 piece shaft, 93 2-piece shaft. If plines and shaft length are the same, no problem. In worst case just move the shaft complete (upper and lower) from the dammaged one to the 'new' one. Have a look and compare in the BRP parts catalog:

Much appreciated. Thank you. I'll make the call and get my hands on the other unit before he changes his mind.

There is still 3 feet of ice on the lake so I have lots of time to work on it.
